Water shortage in Asha Vihar
Von Asha Vihar
25 June 2016

The river Izri, which leads past Asha Vihar, has almost completely dried up in the last few weeks. The wells (service and drinking water) on the riverbank and on the site are almost dried up.

This is the second year in a row that the monsoon in our area of India has been delayed so much that wells and rivers are dehydrating. The water table is obviously sinking unstoppably. For many years, the consequences of climate change are becoming increasingly noticeable. Not only Asha Vihar, but also the villages in the area are struggling with the sinking groundwater table. That’s why the Johar Society carried out reforestation many years ago and built the check dam on Izri. These measures, which kept the groundwater level constant and reliably supplied the surrounding villages and Asha Vihar with water in recent years, are unfortunately no longer sufficient.

We are looking for further action to solve this serious problem as this condition will worsen.
